| Note | Kenneth W. Mateer, formerly of Kittanning, passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at his home in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born Sept. 25, 1932, the eldest son of the late Harry and Louise Mateer. He is survived by his brother, William H. Mateer, of Santa Monica, Calif.; sister, Jean L. Jarvis, of Columbia, Md.; former wife, Renee Kuhn Mateer Lorenson, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; four children, William, Jonathan, Margaret and Amy; and seven grandchildren, all residing in California. Ken was the valedictorian of Kittanning High School, class of 1950, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Jefferson College, Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering from MIT and a Juris Doctor degree from New York University. He moved to California in 1968 to work as a patent attorney for Teledyne, Inc. His passion in life was to fight for civil rights and to support the Democratic Party for the advancement of all people. He has been laid to rest in the family plot at Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington, Pa. At his request, no services will be held.
