Henderson Van Atta Wednesday 6 April 2011 Newark, Licking, OH OBITUARIES ROSS S. AXLINE A funeral service for Ross S. Axline, age 92, of Newark, will be held at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral Cremation Services with Pastor Dan Hill Officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Axline passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born February 26, 1919 in Newark, Ohio to the late Ross H. Axline and Linnie Mae (Steffee) Axline Severance. A 1937 graduate of Newark High School and a member of the Phi Sigs, Mr. Axline joined the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served from 1937 – 1945. Mr. Axline retired from the Newark Post Office after 30 Years of service where he had served as a dispatcher, clerk, letter carrier and rural route carrier. He had also been formerly employed with Pharis tire and Rubber as a tire builder and later a salesman. He was a member of Spring Hills Baptist Church and was a member for over 60 years of the Newark Masonic Lodge #97 F & AM. He was also a 60-year honorary life member and past Exalted Ruler of the Newark Elks Lodge #391. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., the American Legion and the Cranberry Marsh Bass Club as well as a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge #499. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and golfing with the Elks Old Timers Golf League. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha G. (Cass) Axline, whom he married February 6, 1949; daughter, Sheryl C. Houdeshell; son, Bruce H. (Connie) Axline of Newark; grandson, John D. Houdeshell; and great-grandson, Jared D. Houdeshell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ross Lewis Axline. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, where the Newark Elks Lodge #391will have a service at 6:30 p.m. and Newark Lodge #97 F & AM will have a service at 6:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Hills Baptist Church or Hospice of Central Ohio.
